I spent an inordinate amount of time today trying to spiff up the look of this page. Because of differences in the implementation of Cascading Style Sheets in the two major browsers, I ended up compromising with the bluish fade to the right. Even that took a lot longer than I was expecting. My first attempt was a rainbow of colors - too harsh. Then I went to all reds, which looked ok, but seemed to clash with the menus. Then I went to a cyan color, which again clashed. Finally, I settled on the current scheme, which started from a color plucked from the metallic drop texture I use behind the menus.
I could have done something a lot nicer if older browsers correctly supported partial transparency. Apparently the latest Netscape browser does, and Internet Explorer sort of does, but unfortunately, that's not good enough. Not good enough, I say! And I refuse to put textures behind the text on this page, in the interest of readability.
Occasionally I get the urge to go crazy on this site and add all sorts of drop down menus and sounds and what not. Then I just sit down quickly until the feeling passes. Putting my head between my knees seems to help. Standing on my head helps even more, but it is rough on the furniture.
I have my snow tires on the Miata now. There is a true victory of function over form. Those winter beater steel rims are pretty ugly. I don't even have those plastic wheel covers - I flaunt my lack of fashion sense. Besides, anyone who drives a convertible all winter must have a few screws loose anyway.
I suppose I'll get my car reinspected soon. That'll be a victory for form over function, where I meet the letter but not the intent of the law. There is nothing to stop me from putting my bald tires back onto the car in the spring. Nothing except some vestiges of common sense of which I don't seem to be able to rid myself. Out, out, damned common sense! Wisk around the collar beats common sense around the collar, every time.
Well, that's enough from this soapy necked, bald tired car driving, obviously style challenged and slightly punchy excuse for a web content creator. At least until tomorrow.
You can respond to my ranting here.
It is better to look good than to rant good - and dahling, I look mahvelous.
