I watched Gore's concession speech last night, and frankly, I was disappointed. I mean, it was a nice speech and all, and I did like the part where he emphasized that he strongly disagreed with the Supreme Court's ruling, but what I really wanted to see was rage. You know, Big Al pushing over the podium, running up to the camera and swearing, taking swings at the Secret Service guys as they try to wrestle him to the floor, Tipper and Lieberman looking on with horror as they drag him off, still screaming. Nobody would call him a robot after that!
I didn't catch Bush's speech, but I'm sure it was full of the same old boring stuff about unity and "we all have to pull together now" and bipartisanship and all the rest of that horse-pucky, when what we are actually going to get is the same old partisan crapola that we always get. It would have been good if ol' Dubbaya had staggered out to the podium, disheveled, knocking back a brewski and chanting "We won! Five to four! In your face, Al Gore!" with all of his cronies/frat brothers. Because you and I both know that that is what he was doing inside his head.
So we get four years of a President who lost the popular vote, and in all likelihood, will manage to run the national debt even higher by granting massive tax cuts to the rich and overspending on defense. It's the Republican way, after all. I still think that Gore vs. Bush should have been settled mano a mano, last man (or robot) standing is the winner. Maybe in 2004.
